Thomas “Tom” Durlacher Isaac passed away on September 4, 2025, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. He was 77.
Tom spent nearly five decades in Aspen, where he became a cherished figure as a ski bum, small business owner, Aspen City Council member, and seven-term Pitkin County Assessor. Over 28 years in office, he earned admiration for his fairness, humor, and dedication, often turning tense moments with taxpayers into laughter.
A life-altering accident in 1982 left him paralyzed, but Tom embraced every adventure life offered. He skied, rafted, scuba-dived, traveled the world, and inspired friends with his courage, joy, and unyielding spirit.
He is survived by his son, Matt Isaac, and grandsons, Jupiter and Phoenix. His family treasures their final connection with him, especially meeting his three-year-old grandson for the first time—a memory that will endure.
Plans are underway for a celebration of life in Aspen. Donations may be made to Challenge Aspen or Bridging Bionics.
