Our beloved Larry Woolley, who loved life in Meredith, Colorado, Apache Junction, AZ and Fruita, Colorado, passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 82.
Larry was born in April, 1943 in Longmont, Colorado, to John Morgan Woolley and Helen Jorgensen Woolley. He attended Basalt Elementary and High School.
Larry spent his life working as a truck driver and heavy-equipment operator. He worked as a snowcat driver at Snowmass Ski Area in the 1970s and later owned his own truck, working throughout the valley and for a time with Mayflower Moving Company.
Known as an exceptional operator, he worked in challenging and dangerous conditions, including the Montezuma Iron Mine near Ashcroft, hauling coal on the hill route for the Mid-Continent Company in Redstone, and for many years with Frank Bishop Trucking and Excavation. His final job was driving a concrete truck for LaFarge.
When Ruedi Dam was built, Larry and his brother Darol relocated cabins and the Meredith Store to higher ground, allowing the Meredith Store and Post Office to continue operating to this day. He and Darol were very proud of that project and loved their cabins in Meredith.
In 1998, Larry suffered a severe stroke that left him with limited mobility and speech. Though not expected to survive, he lived another 27 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Jeeping, and good times with friends and family.
Larry is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; his daughter, Pamela Woolley (Fred Malone); Betty Lou’s daughters Denise Neilsen, Brenda Goolsby, and Laurie Diaz (Daniel); Grandchildren: Jason (Marielle), Krissy (Jeremiah), Marsha (Michael), Jake (Becky), Douglas, Alicia and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Lee (Henry) and nieces Teresa Lee and Cristal Logan. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Darol Woolley, grandson Clayton, and great grandson Cole.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. His ashes will be scattered in the Frying Pan Valley he loved so dearly. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Thomasville Community Church, PO Box 3, Meredith, CO 81642.
