“Upper Snowmass road to remain closed in winter” reported The Aspen Times Nov. 19, 1970. “The upper Snowmass Creek road to the base terminal of the Campground Lift at Snowmass-at-Aspen will again be closed this winter. A Mr. Perkins, who is associated with the Shield-O Terrace Subdivision in the Snowmass Valley, requested Nov. 2 that county commissioners consider opening the route which has never been plowed in winter. Commissioners replied that the road is in poor condition for winter use and that plowing would be impossible without improvements. They said they have no plans to make improvements in the immediate future. A year ago, Darcy Brown president of the Aspen Skiing Corp. which operates the Snowmass lifts, also requested that the road be plowed. He was turned down for the same reason.”
