On Aug. 10, public safety agencies from throughout the region supported a resource request from the United States Secret Service (USSS), according to a press release. The request was made due to presidential candidate and Former President Donald Trump’s visit to the Aspen area. The USSS’ request was considered a mutual aid request from a partnering law enforcement agency, and the Pitkin County Incident Management Team — a multi-agency, multi-jurisdiction all-hazards incident management team — was activated to manage all public safety resources assigned to the event.

Over 70 public safety individuals were assigned to the event, totaling over 390 personnel hours and an estimated cost of $69,297.00, according to the press release.

“I’m grateful for the Incident Management Team’s work to protect our community during this visit. It’s the Secret Service’s primary role to protect the VIP. It’s our primary responsibility to ensure our community is safe and to appropriately manage and minimize the impact the visit has on our citizens,” said Sheriff Michael Buglione.

The agencies that participated in this visit included: the Aspen Police Department, Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, Aspen Ambulance, Aspen Fire Protection District, Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority, Snowmass Village Police Department, Pitkin County Road and Bridge, Basalt Police Department, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol, United States Forest Service, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, and the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
