The Gentlemen of Aspen Rugby Club hosted a team made up of players from Steamboat Springs and Grand Junction in one final match of the summer on Saturday at Wagner Park in downtown Aspen, winning 64-7.

The game was ultimately a final live tune-up before the Gents make their debut in the Rocky Mountain Rugby Premiership, a step up in competition that includes the possibility of playing for national championships. The Gents won multiple national titles as a club in the 1990s.

The Gents’ RMR schedule opens Sept. 7 at home against Boulder, followed by a home game against the Denver Waterdogs on Sept. 14. Aspen will then take a week off to host its annual Ruggerfest tournament from Sept. 19-22.

The rest of the RMR schedule includes games at Haggis RFC (Sept. 28); at Denver Barbos (Oct. 5); home vs. Haggis RFC (Oct. 12); home vs. Denver Barbos (Oct. 19); at Boulder (Oct. 26); and at the Denver Waterdogs (Nov. 2).
