For this year’s Hay Bay Ball, Smiling Goat Ranch welcomed Dr. Temple Grandin and the Westernaires, a youth trick riding and roping team, as headliners this year. Grandin is an American academic, inventor, and autism spokesperson who is a world-renowned expert in animal welfare and autism.
Guests enjoyed food from the Hickory House, signature cocktails from Woody Creek Distillers, and live music from the Elk Range Duo. Considered the stars of Smiling Goat Ranch, the therapy animals who offer healing to families and veterans were also present, from horses to the small, social therapy animals, including goats, dogs, bunnies, mini horses, and mini donkeys.
Every year, Smiling Goat Ranch honors someone who has gone above and beyond to keep its mission alive of offering therapeutic animal-assisted services for free to those in need. This year’s award was presented to Christine and Brad Zanin, Missouri Heights ranch owners of Smiling Goat Ranch’s new home. The Volunteer of the Year award went to Cameron Hart. Also honored were two youth, Declan Preston and Mia Obreque, who have been with the ranch since day one, recognized with the Greatest of all Time / G.O.A.T. award.
“Over the last 10 years, we have watched them grow, find their voices, and advocate for themselves and thrive,” said Smiling Goat Ranch Founder and Executive Director Sheryl Barto.
“All sessions at Smiling Goat Ranch are customized therapy plans created for each individual,” Barto continued. “All programs are accessible to anyone, regardless of income. No one has been or will ever be turned away for financial reasons.”
SGR also offers services at a true cost of $200/session, with scholarships and subsidies available thanks to generous donors.
