Independence Pass to open Thursday for summer season
Independence Pass will be opening Thursday, May 22, at 4 p.m. to vehicle traffic.
Chuck Marsh, regional communications manager for the Colorado Department of Transportation, and Karin Teague, executive director of the Independence Pass Foundation, confirmed the date to The Aspen Times.
Extra crews were recently brought in to help finish maintenance on the iconic road. As previously reported, drivers can expect construction delays and intermittent lane closures this summer as CDOT undertakes significant resurfacing and bridge improvements on the east side of Independence Pass, near the intersection of Colorado Highway 82 and U.S. Highway 24, through October.
Recreationists can read more about work being done to support the U.S. Forest Service on the Pass and fill in funding gaps here.
