Although Jordyn Miller didn’t have her sights set on Division I lacrosse when she was a child, she has always felt a special connection to the oldest organized sport in North America.
Her father introduced her to the game as soon as she could hold a stick. And, 18 years later, she is counting down the days until she can begin her first practice as a member of the Eastern Michigan Eagles women’s lacrosse team.
The Glenwood Springs High School senior, who plays for the Roaring Fork Rams girls lacrosse team, signed a letter of commitment with Eastern Michigan in the GSHS gym on Wednesday, surrounded by friends, family, coaches, and supporters.
“I’ve had a lot of support throughout,” Miller said. “Seeing all the people show up for me at the signing meant a lot. The support I’ve felt from my friends, family, parents, and coaches has been really amazing.”
Raised in Glenwood Springs, Miller has been able to watch previous talent make their way to the next level — both boys and girls — through the valley’s various lacrosse programs and learned what it would take to get there herself. She said her younger self would be shocked with pride to learn that her name would grace a Division I roster in 2026.
“Playing D1 always seemed like such a reach to me,” she said. “Especially coming from the valley, I know that getting seen and getting to play college is super hard because we’re so small. I would have been shocked but extremely proud.”
Miller’s father passed down a love he gained through his own high school and college experiences along with an undying competitive spirit that drives her to be the best. She said she first realized that playing in college would be an option when she felt the local competition wasn’t enough in eighth grade, so she joined a club team called Team 91 Colorado in Denver.
“That’s when I feel most in love with the sport,” she said. “The competition was very fierce and I remember realizing that college would be an option after that.”
Miller said she didn’t leave a single stone unturned during her college search, but explained that once she visited the Eastern Michigan University campus in Ypsilanti, she felt right at home.

“I emailed like 50 schools,” she laughed. “I really loved the coaches and the atmosphere when I went to Eastern Michigan. I stayed with the team the first time I visited, and everyone was very welcoming, and I felt very comfortable.”
The signing comes prior to her senior campaign as a part of the Roaring Fork Rams. After receiving honorable mention as a sophomore, Miller rose to first team all-state honors as a junior. This spring, she will captain a program that hasn’t missed the playoffs since the 2018-19 season.
“The girls on the team are some of my closest friends, and being able to experience all the emotions from wins and losses to the bus rides and overnight trips has been so much fun,” she said.
From being a part of the youth Swarm team to captaining the Rams varsity lacrosse team, Miller has bled Roaring Fork lacrosse throughout her entire childhood, and now will be able to represent her home valley by dominating on a national stage.
