The historic Wheeler Opera House will turn into a country singing, storytellers’ stage when “An Acoustic Evening with the Band Perry” begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, for a Valentine’s Day crowd.

“We were so excited to be able to do three shows in Colorado and be there for the whole weekend and spend Valentine’s Day in Aspen. That sounds perfect,” lead-singer Kimberly Perry said.

The Aspen event will be the second show in the band’s latest tour.

The Band Perry initially formed in 2005, with siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil winning a GRAMMY, Country Music Association award, Academy of Country music award, and having the rare accomplishment of a Diamond-certified smash “If I Die Young.”

The hit made Kimberly the only female solo artist to write a Diamond-certified country song, according to the Wheeler website. Other hits include “Better Dig Two,” “Done,” All Your Life,” and “Chainsaw.”

After a two-year hiatus, the band returned in 2025 with a lineup of Kimberly, her brother Reid Perry, and Kimberly’s husband, Johnny Costello. Perry and Costello met in October of 2020, dated for eight months, and eloped in Las Vegas. The couple married at midnight in June 2021.

The Valentine’s evening will feature the band’s first single in nine years, “Psychological,” which debuted Feb. 13.

“We’re going to be celebrating it all weekend long at these shows,” Kimberly said.

The first two albums were recorded by the sibling trio, with the third album as part of the band’s new evolution.

“We are officially calling this our third full country-music album,” she said.

The band is working with Nashville-based producer Dann Huff, who recorded the band’s second album, “Pioneer.”

Each acoustic show in Colorado will roll out a little differently, with each performance focusing on the best story for the show.

“We think about it narratively a little bit more,” Kimberly said. “The format of this show is one of my favorites. It’s storytelling, so Johnny and I will play acoustically. We have our amazing fiddle player with us, Tessa Dawson. This will be all of The Band Perry hits that everybody loves. We have some new songs to try out as well.”

She noted the acoustic set differs from their full-band shows, adding, “There are lots of stories behind these new songs that we’ll be playing.”

As the band embraces touring, she calls it her “favorite thing,” even over songwriting.

“My brothers and I back in the day were playing shows of cover songs, and I’ve been on the road since I was 15,” Kimberly said. “My husband, Johnny, said that’s one of the things that we connected over. He’s been in rock ‘n’ roll, he grew up in Texas, and he has been playing country music down in Texas as well.”

But the band doesn’t consider touring and making music to be mutually exclusive.

“We’ve told our team. ‘Hey, if you guys put 200 shows on the books, we’ll be there,'” she said. “We take a lot of our afternoons to write music. Country music mostly tours Thursday through Sundays, so we spend a lot of our Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays in the writing room.”

The band is recording the third album in stages, so she and her husband will head back into the studio with Huff to produce the next batch of songs in March — aiming for a fall release. The new album name has not been released yet.

Kimberly and Costello are also bringing their toddler on the road.

“We’re hoping to make some new family memories with him in Aspen,” she said, addeding that her toddler is having fun pretending to drive the bus.

“He’s a busy baby, for sure,” she said.

En route to Aspen, Kimberly said, “The energy is at a fever pitch for us right now on our release weekend with ‘Psychological,’ and we just can’t wait to sing it all together.”
