Based in Aspen and Basalt, CCY Architects approaches 2026 with a full slate of projects throughout Roaring Fork Valley.
At center stage locally are the renovations of the Armory Hall, the expansion of the Carbondale Clay Center, and a collaboration with Aspen Valley Land Trust to shape a community engagement space.
“With half a century of experience in the Roaring Fork Valley, CCY Architects has continually focused on projects that foster community, from affordable housing to on-mountain amenities and the upcoming Armory Food Hall,” CCY Architects Partner Maura Trumble said of the firm founded in Aspen, 1971.
CCY is currently collaborating with the City of Aspen to transform the 134-year-old Aspen Armory Hall into a mixed-use community space anchored by a food hall with multiple kitchens, retail kiosks, a bar, a lounge, and a game room, targeting a 2026 construction start.
Trumble added, “Our collaborations with the city of Aspen, SkiCo, and other local partners are central to our core values as a firm, as we seek to create sustainable, impactful designs that improve the lives of those who live, work, and play in this beautiful valley.”
Among its slate, CCY is collaborating with the Carbondale Clay Center during its capital funding stage to plan a new community building with Todd Kennedy as the partner in charge.
“CCY has been an incredible partner in the design process for our new building,” Executive Director Angela Bruno said. “Will Young, project architect, is also a ceramic artist, so he has understood the studio flow and what we needed. They have also been very generous with their time and donated nearly $150,000 in design work. We are excited to see this project through and anticipate breaking ground in the spring of 2027.”
In addition, CCY is working with the Aspen Valley Land Trust on a 10-acre space at Coffman’s 141-acre ranch in Carbondale, which includes a pole barn, a community kitchen, and a multipurpose building.
One of their completed recent projects is the award-winning MOLLIE Aspen, which completed its redesign in 2024 and appeared on Season Four of the television series “Hotels ByDesign,” airing in 2025 and still available for streaming on various platforms.

Other local works include Elk Camp and the Lost Forest, Buttermilk Base, Snowmass Treehouse Kids Adventure Center, Aspen Art Museum, Aspen Sundeck, The Little Nell, Obermeyer Place Condominium, Limelight Aspen, and numerous affordable housing projects.
The firm is on Forbes’ Top 200 U.S. Residential Architecture Firms and is part of the AD PRO Directory, as well as having projects that span beyond Roaring Fork Valley.
CCY’s VooDoo Lounge development in Telluride was honored as Editor’s Pick in The Architect’s Newspaper Best of Design Awards, Residential Mixed-Use category, December 2025. The recent award underscores CCY’s ambition to elevate affordable housing through thoughtful design and integration, according to a press release.
“We’re honored to be recognized by The Architect’s Newspaper for VooDoo. Projects like this matter deeply to our studio,” Trumble said. “Affordable housing is essential to the vitality of resort communities, and we’re proud to be trusted with work that helps locals live, work, and stay rooted in the places they help sustain.”

The firm has 40 architects and five administrative staff. The partners are Richard Carr, Alex Klumb, Kennedy, and Trumble.
Aspen studio is located at 510 E. Hyman Ave., Suite 23, in the Aspen Elks Building, and is used intermittently throughout the year for CCY’s team and client meetings. However, since 1999, CCY has operated daily out of the Basalt office, which the firm designed and built.
