The town of Basalt is hosting a public open house with the aim of gathering community feedback and sharing information about the proposed Willits Housing and Community Space project.

The proposed Willits Housing and Community Space project is located on Lewis Lane. The open house is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Hoffman Hotel.

“The town is exploring options for developing affordable housing and a community space on a 2.3-acre parcel of land,” a press release states. “The town is seeking further community member, employer, and stakeholder input to share the next level of design for the project.”

The project provides an opportunity to address Basalt’s “most pressing challenge” of adding affordable housing units in town, according to the release. The project is also an opportunity to fulfill goals of the 2020 Basalt Master Plan, which is to provide housing serving a diversity of residents in proximity to commercial and transit centers.

While the project is still in the conceptual phase, it will consider housing units ranging from studios to three-bedrooms and a community center.

The open house is following a series of focus groups, neighborhood meetings, pop-up feedback sessions, and online survey feedback. The community is able to fill out a survey and learn more about the project at letstalk.basalt.net
