Basalt Elementary School third-graders had the opportunity Thursday to engage in hands-on STEM education, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education, with local nonprofits.
A series of films presented by Aspen Film and the Aspen Science Center aimed to “connect cinematic storytelling with practical science and technology applications,” according to a press release announcing the collaboration.
“For our students at Basalt Elementary, partnering with organizations like Aspen Film and Aspen Science Center opens doors to creativity, curiosity and new ways of thinking that extend far beyond the classroom,” said Katherine Houchin, STEM K-4 educator at Basalt Elementary School, in the press release. “I am so grateful to live in a place where community partnerships like this are available for our kids.”
The program highlighted how local arts and science organizations can collaborate with Roaring Fork Schools to bring STEM education to young students with “multi-sensory” learning, the press release said.
