“We have seldom witnessed a picture with as engrossing a theme as ‘The Scarlet West,’ as shown at the Isis Theatre last evening,” The Aspen Times noted on Feb. 17, 1926.

“It is a stirring record of one of the most dramatic periods in American history. We relive the days when the hardy pioneers, ignoring the dangers which confronted them, set out for the West in order to found new homes; when the Indians, resentful against what they considered an unwarranted invasion of their domains, rose in rebellion; Custer’s historic last stand; and when the American soldiers appeared on the scene and after many years of bitter warfare, brought about peace. Such is the background of ‘The Scarlet West.’ There is magnificent scenery, for the picture was made in Colorado, and majestic mountains, plains, and valleys are the settings of this powerful drama.”
