“One year ago last night, G. A. Godat, the veteran professor of dancing, opened his academy at the Rink opera house with great success,” Aspen Daily Times remarked on Nov. 17, 1889.

“Some 150 persons attended the opening of his class, and the academy has been conducted so well ever since under the supervision of this gentleman that it has been kept running continuously for one year, with the hall filled with the young society people of the city each and every night of his class meetings. Last night there were some 200 persons in attendance, and the professor was complimented by all. This goes to show that Mr. Godat has won a reputation as a dancing teacher and manager of his academy, that he is the right man in the right place, and that he is a benefactor to the public in his line of business. We recommend on behalf of this gentleman that the public patronize a beneficial institution, both for pleasure and for exercise.”
