Aspen Thrift Shop: July grantees
The Aspen Thrift Shop was founded in 1949 by a small group of energetic and enthusiastic community members. Since then, through items donated to sell and volunteers willing to sort, price, and display these items, local residents and guests have provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to worthy causes in our valley.
In July 2024, the Thrift Shop awarded grants to the following organizations: Aspen Camp of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Aspen Music Festival and School; Aspen Youth Center; Carbondale Community Access Radio (KDNK); English in Action; Holiday Baskets of the Roaring Fork Valley; Roaring Fork Conservancy; Three Rivers Little League; and the Wildwood School.
The Aspen Thrift Shop is a cherished resource for all, including the venerable May Rose Salkin, Aspen’s unofficial summer poet for many, many years, who penned this ode to the Thrift Shop in 1992:
I’m an avid thrift shop addict
I visit them in many states.
But the thrift shop here in Aspen
With me, it really rates.
The ladies are so lovely,
So helpful and so kind.
And what is so amazing
Are the great things that I find.
I keep my grandkids happy,
And my husband won’t admit
The sweaters that I find for him
Make him look so trim and fit.
Enjoy the summer! And thank you for your support.
