Anderson Ranch Arts Center has announced a new sculpture joining the Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, which is currently on display at its five-acre campus in Snowmass Village.
Bunny Burson, in collaboration with artist Leah Aegerter, presents “The Common Code,” a large-scale sculpture in bright yellow, blue, and red. According to a press release, the sculpture represents “the interlocking forms of human chromosomes in the colors used by the scientific community to identify the components of our DNA.”
“The Common Code sculpture grew out of my discovery of family letters and a desire to understand and reinterpret my own history,” Burson said in the release. “Collaborating with Leah Aegerter allowed me to merge my search for personal narrative with the many possibilities of technology and digital fabrication. Together, we created these chromosomal forms which speak to both our individuality as well as our commonality and shared humanity — reminding us that what unites us is far greater than what divides us.”
Andrea Jenkins Wallace, vice president of Artistic Affairs, emphasized the Ranch’s enthusiasm to feature “The Common Code,” which was conceptually developed at the Ranch and fabricated through Burson and Aegerter’s collaboration.
“Bunny and Leah’s partnership exemplifies the meaningful artistic connections that take root at the Ranch — where ideas are born, collaborations flourish, and creative dialogue continues to ripple outward into the world,” Wallace said in the release.

The Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition is now in its fifth year, with the current iteration featuring works by emerging and established artists, many with a personal connection to the Ranch.
“The sculptures activate the campus in an unexpected way, allowing visitors to explore works by very different artists, each conveying distinct ideas and experiences,” the press release states.
