Iron & Wine returns to Belly Up Aspen, Oct. 17

Iron & Wine will perform with Bluebook (Julie Davis solo) at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Belly Up Aspen. Sam Beam, who performs as Iron & Wine, continues to showcase his latest album, “Light Verse,” which is praised by some of his most playful and adventurous music. For the recordings, Beam assembled a group of Los Angeles-based musicians and added a session with a 24-piece orchestra. He also invited Fiona Apple to lend her voice for a duet. “Bluebook” is the solo project of Julie Davis. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult for this all-ages show. Shining Mountains Film Festival, Oct 17-18

Experience the power of Indigenous voices and stories when The 7th Annual Shining Mountains Film Festival returns Oct. 17-18 to the Wheeler Opera House. This vital cultural event presents a lineup of films and performances celebrating powerful stories amid the rich tapestry of Indigenous Peoples across North America. The screenings include question and answer sessions featuring visionary directors, producers, and actors. ‘Arte en Español’ at Aspen Art Museum, Oct. 18

The Aspen Art Museum’s third annual celebration of the Roaring Fork Valley’s Hispanic community and culture, “Arte en Español 2025,” will run Oct. 18 through Nov. 2. The two week series features free, engaging programming, including artistic workshops tailored for various age groups, all building up to a Día de los Muertos Celebration on Sunday, Nov. 2. Free Board Games at MOLLIE Aspen, Oct. 20

MOLLIE Aspen hosts a free board game every Monday night from 5 to 9 p.m. for all ages, offering a variety of games from classics to newer titles. Humans 2.0 by Circa, Oct. 22

Humans 2.0 will take the stage from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Wheeler Opera House. The contemporary circus production comes from Circa, the internationally-acclaimed Australian company known for pushing the boundaries of physical performance. Directed by Yaron Lifschitz, the show will feature a 10-person cast testing their physical limits through a “tightly woven choreography” to explore themes of balance and change inherent in the human journey. Senior Active Art: Pumpkin Painting, Oct. 23

Active Art free community outreach program invites seniors in the Roaring Fork Valley to engage and be social while making art. There will be a free Active Art Pumpkin Painting from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Aspen Art Museum. This workshop series aims to encourage hand dexterity, enhance memory, and encourage self reflection. All materials are provided and it will be festive with light snacks and beverages. Pet Costume Contest in Carbondale, Oct. 19

Paws and Play is hosting a Pet Costume Contest for festive, furry friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Hendrick Dog Park in Carbondale. The event will feature a Tricks for Treats contest, a pet parade, and an outdoor photo booth. Attendees can enjoy free White House pizza and gift cards. Humans are encouraged to dress up. Shana Salaff’s solo exhibition, “Playful Pottery,” which began Sept. 8, will run through Oct. 25 at the Main Street Gallery & The Framer, LTD. in Carbondale. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Originally from Toronto, Salaff pursued a series of art education programs, eventually earning an MFA in Ceramics from California State University, Fullerton. It was during her time as an artist-in-residence at Art 342 in Fort Collins that she fell in love with the area and eventually moved there. A 50-year clay retrospective in Carbondale, through Oct. 31

Ceramicist Frank McGuirk’s 50-year retrospective exhibition, “What the Clay Records,” opened Oct. 6 and will continue through Oct. 31 at the Carbondale Clay Center. From the 1970s to today, McGuirk’s practice reflects moments of influence. Carbondale Clay Center is located at 135 Main St., Carbondale. The exhibition is sponsored by the Aspen Glen Tennis Team.
