Aspenite Kristin Walla was one of three winners Wednesday when some of the state’s top young golfers hit the links in Aspen for the Colorado PGA Foundation Junior Golf Classic.

Walla, competing in the girls division during the two-day event, narrowly held on to the two-shot lead she established Tuesday, finishing with a 78 and beating out Longmont’s Rachel Larson by only one shot.

In the boys 15-18 division, Eric Winder established a solid three-shot lead during the first round at the Aspen Municipal Golf Course, but struggled at the beginning of the second day. He knocked in a bogey, followed by a double-bogey, and on the second hole he was tied with his playing partners.

But he regained his composure on the back nine and dropped birdie after birdie, easily distancing himself from the competition and finishing six strokes ahead with a 73.

In the 12-14 boys division Cory Biollot had to hold off a strong charge from fellow Colorado Springs native Taylor Stamp, but in the end Biollot managed a 79, good enough to beat Stamp by one stroke.
