Volleyball finals today in Snowmass Doubles

The Snowmass Doubles volleyball tournament will rock into Day 2 today at Snowmass Village.

The Volleyball of the Rockies organizers said Saturday night that the championship bracket play will begin at 9 a.m. today at the courts near Base Village and the courts at the Snowmass Recreation Center.

Finals tentatively are set for 1 p.m. with possible schedule adjustments if weather becomes a factor.

Teams are playing on sand and on the grass courts in the first edition of the Snowmass Doubles.

The event earlier this week featured a volleyball clinic for junior players with Olympic gold medalist Misty May Treanor.

She worked with the youth players Friday in Snowmass.

The Snowmass Doubles tournament came about through a partnership of Snowmass Tourism and the Volleyball of the Rockies organization, which also stages summer volleyball events in Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge.

There is a purse of $6,000 in the pro divisions of the Snowmass Doubles tournament.
