Volleyball: Aspen has no issue with Lake County
The Aspen High School volleyball team wasted no time putting away visiting Lake County on Thursday, cruising 3-0 for its second match win of the young season inside the Aspen High School gymnasium.
“The match moved along pretty quick,” Aspen coach Matt Bergdahl said. “We had first-game jitters, again, but we are working through those. So it’s good.”
Lake County (0-3) put up its best fight in the first set; Aspen held on for a 25-19 win. The second set was dominated by the Skiers, an efficient 25-9 win that led to a 25-17 third-set victory that sealed the match.
“We got everybody playing and contributing tonight,” Bergdahl said. “It was a good send-off for their Ex-Ed week. They are a pretty excited bunch of girls. Good way to go.”
Aspen (2-1) heads into its “experiential education” week as winners of back-to-back matches, the first being Tuesday’s 3-1 win against Basalt. The lone loss was a 3-2 defeat at Roaring Fork in the season opener.
The Skiers will only get one practice between now and their next game, a Sept. 20 trip to Gunnison.
“It’s going to be exciting,” Bergdahl said. “I love this team. It’s getting better every week. You can’t ask for more than that. The girls are working hard. They are showing what they’ve got. So we are pretty excited.”
