Town Super-G, Downhill this week
An Aspen ski racing tradition returns this week with the annual John Meyer/Aspen Times Town Downhill and Super-G at Buttermilk.
The Town Super-G will be held today on the Racers Edge race course at Tiehack.
Registration will run from 8 to 9 a.m. today at Bumps restaurant at the base of main Buttermilk.
Course inspection is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 10:10 a.m.
The ski the hill warmup run is set for 10:30 a.m. today.
The Town Super-G will start at 11:30 a.m. today.
Skiers then turn their attention to the John Meyer/Aspen Times Town Downhill, which will be run on Sunday.
Two downhill training runs are required Saturday in advance of the actual race on Sunday.
Saturday’s schedule calls for the first training run at 10:30 a.m.
The second downhill training run is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
Race day for the downhill (Sunday) will start with course inspection from 9 to 10 a.m.
The downhill will start at 11 a.m.
The post-race awards party will start at 4 p.m. at Ryno’s in downtown Aspen.
For those interested in racing, organizers recommend strong skiing skills.
Helmets are required as are the training runs for the downhillers.
A special $62 racer-only lift ticket will be available to racers who show their race bib or USSA card at the Buttermilk ticket office.
