It was far from perfect, but the Basalt High School softball team earned a 15-5 win against Aspen High School on Tuesday in Basalt.

The win makes Basalt 3-0 this season, while Aspen fell to 0-4.

“We played really lazy and sloppy. Aspen gave us a run for our money the first four innings,” Basalt coach Marianne Gardner-Smith said. “Then we went back to our starting nine and brought our pitcher in who hasn’t been able to pitch. Then we broke it open.”

With the return of pitcher Morgan Ash, who missed last week’s game against Meeker recovering from an arm strain, the Longhorns were able to finish off a young Aspen bunch.

Basalt is off until it hosts Cedaredge in a doubleheader Tuesday. Aspen is scheduled to play at Meeker on Tuesday.
