The win is coming for the Aspen High School softball team. It’s just a matter of time, coach Dave Fuentes believes.

The Skiers remained winless this season after losing 20-1 and 12-4 in a home doubleheader against Gunnison on Thursday at Upper Moore Field.

“For a young team, we are gaining some exposure,” Fuentes said. “It was a good team effort. We are getting there. We are getting close.”

After getting rolled in the first game, Aspen (0-8) made a fight out of the second, with big late innings from Gunnison the difference in the score.

“Slow start in the first game,” Fuentes said. “Much more competitive game the second time. We came out and were ready to play. Really kind of came out and made it competitive. It was a tight game.”

Those were the first two wins of the season for Gunnison.

Next, Aspen will host Eagle Valley on Saturday in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 11 a.m.
