Soccer: Aspen boys get first win, beat Middle Park
It took six games and a week off, but the Aspen High School boys soccer team finally got in the win column Thursday, a 6-2 victory against Middle Park at the AHS athletic field.
“The ex-ed break did them some good. Gave them a chance to refocus,” Aspen coach Dave Francis said. “The boys played really well. They got the reward, finally today, that they’ve been working so hard for.”
The Skiers, who entered the game 0-4-1 following their experiential education week, trailed 1-0 to Middle Park (2-7) less than 10 minutes into the game. By halftime, Aspen led 3-1 and ran away with the easy win.
Guillermo Flores scored three goals for Aspen, with two coming from Harry Kahn and one from Alex Gordon.
“They could have let it get away from them a bit, but not at all,” Francis said. “They were confident. They played well; they moved the ball well. They finally got what they deserved.”
Aspen (1-4-1) will next host Vail Mountain at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Skiers lost, 4-2, at Vail Mountain on Sept. 1 in their second game of the season.
