Skiers second at Summit swim meet

SUMMIT COUNTY Led by strong individual performances from Kaitlin Gerson, Hana Maclean and Keely Roberts, Aspen’s girls swim team took second in Saturday’s five-team Tiger Invite in Summit County.

The Skiers finished with 69 points, besting Colorado Academy (65), Platte Canyon (64) and Saint Mary’s Academy (44). The host Tigers cruised to a team win with a total of 82 points.Maclean took the gold in the 200-yard freestyle, in two minutes, 28.15 seconds.Gerson had a personal best in the 200-yard individual medley, taking second in 2:34.44. She also won the 100-yard freestyle, in 1:00.99.

Roberts had two third-place finishes, finishing in 1:19.03 in the 100-yard butterfly and in 6:52.85 in the 500-yard freestyle.Aspen’s Shannon Pierce was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.24) and Megan Karaus was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.26).

The Skiers’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Gerson, Karaus, Maclean and ME Purnell took third, in 1:58.59.In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Aspen’s Steffi Klawiter, Ali Leydecker, Roberts, and Keaton Doyle took third, in 4:51.00.The Skiers’ next meet is Friday afternoon when they host Gunnison at the Aspen Recreation Center pool.
