Roadies, get ready.

The Aspen Cycling Club will stage a road race today — the annual Woody Creek-Old Snowmass-Lenado Road Race, starting at 6 p.m.

“This race course includes modest descending and climbing grades which will allow opportunities for riding within a peloton,” said Aspen Cycling Club president Mike Maple.

He said registration will be at the start line today, located at the intersection of Upper River Road and the Woody Creek-Lenado Road.

The start is about one-third mile northwest of the Woody Creek Tavern.

Registration will run from 5 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.

Cost is $5 for club members and $10 for nonmembers. Nonmembers are invited to today’s road race.

“From the start line, the course first heads downvalley on Upper and Lower River roads for about 6 miles to a turnaround point one-quarter mile above the bridge over the Roaring Fork River in Old Snowmass,” Maple said. “From the turnaround point, the course heads back up Lower and Upper River roads, climbing 400 vertical feet to the start line. From here, all racers will veer left onto the Woody Creek-Lenado Road, where the course gently ascends 600 feet over 4.75 miles.”

He said the finish line is located just before the end of the pavement.

The Senior Men A will be the first group off today, leaving at 6 p.m. Vet Men A will leave two minutes later.

All women’s categories plus all sport, masters and high school/middle school groups will leave three minutes later at approximately 6:05 p.m.

Six marshals are needed for today’s race.

Points will be awarded to members who give their time and effort to marshal. To volunteer, please email Mouse at mousesmv@hotmail.com or call her at 970-618-4626.
