Rifle stops AHS girls

Staff report

The Aspen High School girls basketball team continued to apply the defensive pressure.

But they struggled to score in the second game of the season in a 42-10 loss to Class 4A Rifle on Saturday in the annual Brenda Patch Tournament in Carbondale.

“The girls played great defense,” said head coach Debbie Alcorta. “But this game was a little tougher than (Friday). Rifle is aggressive; they are disciplined.”

Alcorta said Megan Hanson, Marissa Buchholz and McKenna Woodrow had outstanding defensive games for the Skiers.

“It’s good to play these tough teams,” Alcorta said.

The Aspen girls (0-2) will play at Hotchkiss on Thursday.
