Preps dig new volleyball season
The Aspen Times
Serve. Bump, set, spike.
Repeat.
Again and again and again.
The high school volleyball season jumped into the new season Friday and Saturday with the Aspen Volleyball Tournament at Aspen High School.
The Skiers hosted seven other Western Slope high schools in the two-day, round-robin tournament, designed to maximize early season match time.
Each school played four matches, including three on a tiring Saturday at the Skierdome and the big gym at AHS.
Aspen head coach Matt Bergdahl said the tourney enables the Skiers to work different lineup combinations against tough competition from the likes of 2A stalwarts Rangely, Meeker and West Grand (Kremmling).
Aspen opened the tourney with a 25-19-25-20 loss to Hotchkiss. They closed with a 25-19, 25-13 loss to Meeker.
The Skiers used a variety of players including Clare Boronski, Cameron Stover-Donaubauer, Jessica Furr, Ashlyn Gerbaz, Dani Forristall, Katy Miller, Jessica Tyler, Kendall Anderson, Kaya Storm, Michaela Perau, Kiana Perau, Megan Doherty, Emma Harvey and Liza Vechicarello.
The Skiers will play in another round-robin tournament in Delta next weekend.
