Preps: Basalt softball wins 20th game, finishes league play with perfect record

Basalt softball beats Gunnison to finish league season undefeated
The Basalt High School softball team hosted Gunnison on Saturday, winning 13-1 behind a strong outing from pitcher Grace Schrock in the first game and winning 19-11 in the second game. Basalt, ranked No. 6 in Class 3A this week, improved to 20-1 overall and finished their league season a perfect 12-0. BHS will finish out the regular season with a lone home game on Tuesday against Palisade.
The Aspen High School softball team had been scheduled to play Eagle Valley on Saturday, but that game was cancelled due to Aspen’s low numbers. AHS is still scheduled to host Rifle at 3 p.m. Tuesday for senior day.
Basalt soccer beats Crested Butte; AHS soccer falls to Grand Junction
The Basalt High School boys soccer team held on for a 1-0 home victory over Crested Butte on Saturday. The Titans, now 8-3-1, are the defending Class 2A state champions. The Longhorns improved to 5-4-1 overall after their third straight win. They are scheduled to host Moffat County on Tuesday, a team they beat 10-1 back on Sept. 19 in Craig.
The Aspen High School boys soccer team hosted Grand Junction on Saturday, falling 5-1. The Skiers only trailed 2-1 at halftime. The Tigers, who compete in a higher classification, improved to 3-7-1 overall, while Aspen fell to 1-8. AHS will play Tuesday at Coal Ridge and host Roaring Fork on Friday.
Aspen boys tennis sweeps Basalt on Saturday with regionals this week
The Aspen High School boys tennis team hosted Basalt on Saturday, winning 7-0 at Snowmass Club. Aspen sat its top players and had seven players competing on varsity for the first time. Bryce Cordts-Pearce (No. 1), Dyer Hunting (No. 2) and Quinn McKie (No. 3) each stepped in for wins in singles play. Taylor Aki and Micky Terkun won at No. 1 doubles; Elliot Teague and Aiden Sunkel at No. 2 doubles; Liam Farrey and Ben Godomsky at No. 3 doubles; and Beckett Brennan and Luca Pedinielli at No. 4 doubles.
Both teams compete Friday in regional play, with the state tournament scheduled to get underway Oct. 17 in Pueblo.
Basalt volleyball loses to No. 6 Cedaredge in four sets
The Basalt High School volleyball team hosted Cedaredge on Saturday, falling 3-1. Set scores were 25-22, 12-25, 19-25 and 13-25. The set loss was the first of the season for the Bruins, who now are 11-0 and ranked No. 6 in Class 3A this week. Basalt fell to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in league play. BHS will play Saturday at Moffat County.
AHS volleyball played at a tournament hosed by Battle Mountain over the weekend, although complete results weren’t available by press deadline.
Golfer hits hole-in-one at Ranch at Roaring Fork Golf Course
Jaymin Kanzer hit a hole-in-one on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Ranch at Roaring Fork Golf Course. The ace was made on hole No. 2 (164 yards) and witnessed by Skyler Zanjan.
