Preps: AHS hockey falls to Dakota Ridge
In area high school sports this weekend, the Aspen High School hockey team hosted Dakota Ridge on Friday night at the Lewis Ice Arena.
Dakota Ridge (Littleton) skated away with a 5-1 victory, improving to 7-1 in the process.
Aspen, coming off a 3-1 win at Steamboat Springs earlier in the week, fell to 3-6.
The AHS hockey team will host Columbine at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lewis Ice Arena.
Next Saturday, Aspen will host Chatfield at 4 p.m.
Basalt basketball
The Basalt High School basketball teams dropped both varsity games at Moffat County in Craig on Friday night.
The Basalt boys lost 56-32, moving to 2-5 overall, 0-4 in the Western Slope League.
The host Bulldogs jumped to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter. Joe Camilletti led Moffat County with 14 points.
Moffat County improved to 4-0 in conference, 6-3 overall.
The Basalt girls lost 76-27 to Moffat County, which improved to 3-1 in the Western Slope League and 5-4 overall.
Moffat County bolted to a 30-9 lead in the first quarter of the Bulldogs’ home opener.
The Basalt girls nearly won their first game Saturday before Gunnison pulled out a 27-23 win.
The BHS girls are 0-8, 0-5 in league.
Next week, Basalt will play at Grand Valley on Friday before a rivalry game at Aspen next Saturday, Jan. 24.
World Cup sliding events set to make return to Park City this winter, first since pandemic
The track at the Utah Olympic Park will be put to good use toward the tail end of 2022. The Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cups stop at the UOP from Nov. 28 through Dec. 4, and then the Luge World Cup from Dec. 15 to Dec. 17.
