Prep: Aspen XC, Basalt volleyball results
The Basalt High School volleyball team opened its season over the weekend at a two-day tournament in Rangely, going 2-2.
The Longhorns defeated Telluride, 2-1, on Friday before a 2-0 loss against Rangely. Saturday, Basalt defeated Hayden, 2-1, before falling 2-0 to Soroco.
The Longhorns are back in action this evening when they play at Aspen High School. The Skiers are 0-1; their lone match a 3-2 defeat at Roaring Fork last week.
Aspen cross country competes at Battle Mountain
The Aspen High School cross country team competed for the second time this fall Saturday at the Husky Invitational, hosted by Battle Mountain High School at Beaver Creek Resort. The Aspen girls finished eighth as a team with 214 points, with Battle Mountain’s 27 points taking the crown. Melody Lemke led Aspen by finishing 35th overall in 27 minutes, 25 seconds. Chelsea Moore, Adair Pattillo, Ashley Soderberg and Dara Schenck all finished together from 48th to 51st place.
Eagle Valley freshman Joslin Blair won the girls race in 22:04.
The Aspen boys finished 11th as a team, led by Liam Locke in 42nd place (23:00). Soroco’s Ben Kelley won the boys race in 18:35, with Battle Mountain again winning the team title.
Aspen cross country is next scheduled to compete Saturday in Hotchkiss. Basalt High School, which was off this week, is scheduled to compete in the Liberty Bell Invitational on Friday in Littleton.
