Prep: Aspen, Basalt girls soccer keep winning, play Thursday
The Aspen High School girls soccer team won its fifth straight game Tuesday, defeating Roaring Fork 3-1 in Carbondale. The game originally was scheduled to be played at AHS, but wintry weather forced the game to be moved down valley.
The Skiers led 2-1 at halftime before scoring the lone goal of the second half.
The Rams fell to 4-4-2 overall and 3-3 in league play. Aspen improved to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Skiers have three games remaining in the regular season, their next game coming Thursday at Basalt.
The Longhorns rolled to an 8-0 win Tuesday at Moffat County. BHS led 5-0 at halftime.
After on 0-2 start to the season, Basalt now has won 10 straight to reach 10-2 overall. They remain undefeated in league play at 7-0, a record they share with only Vail Mountain. The teams will play each other March 2 in Basalt, the Longhorns’ regular season finale.
Basalt also has a home game Saturday against Roaring Fork to round out its remaining schedule.
Boys lacrosse shuts down Montrose
The Aspen High School boys lacrosse team won 11-0 Tuesday at Montrose for its third straight win. It was the second shutout of the season for the Skiers, the first coming 17-0 on March 17, also against Montrose.
The win improves Aspen to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in league play. The Skiers have four regular-season games remaining, next being a Thursday afternoon game at home against Grand Junction (4-9, 4-4). Aspen’s final home game is scheduled for Saturday against Telluride.
The Aspen boys continue to hold down a top-5 RPI ranking in Class 4A. They are No. 8 in this week’s media/coaches poll.
The Aspen High School girls lacrosse team is scheduled to play its final league game Wednesday at Eagle Valley (4-5, 1-3). A win for the Skiers, 7-5 overall, would mean an undefeated league record and outright league title. AHS still has two non-league games at Chaparral and Cheyenne Mountain remaining to finish out the regular season.
Basalt, Aspen baseball fall short
The Basalt High School baseball team lost 13-2 Tuesday at Delta (11-4, 5-0). The Longhorns fell to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in league play with the loss. They next play a non-league game Thursday at Buena Vista (9-4).
The Aspen High baseball team lost 12-2 Tuesday at Gunnison. AHS led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but errors led to a big inning for the Cowboys, now 11-3.
Harry Kahn hit a home run in the top of the second for the Skiers, now 5-9 overall. AHS is scheduled to host Delta on Saturday.

The Cory Parker-era of Aspen High School boys basketball picked up essentially where it left off from when he was a player — that is, in a very good place. The Skiers used a quick start and rolled to a 75-33 win over visiting Vail Mountain School on Tuesday night inside the AHS gymnasium.
