Pee Wee A’s win in Dallas

The Aspen Leafs Pee Wee A’s won their division of the Dallas Star Winter Classic in Dallas over the holiday weekend. The Aspen Bantam A team also traveled to Dallas for the national tournament, which featured more than 100 teams.

The Pee Wee A’s advanced to Monday’s championship game following wins over the Bay Area Hounds, the Texas Aces and the Houston Aeros. Against the Aeros, the Aspen team gave up its first goal of the tournament in a 2-1 win after shutting out the Hounds and the Aces by a combined 7-0.In the championship game, Aspen beat a club team from Arvada, 6-3. The Leafs also beat Arvada earlier this season in the Aspen Fall Face Off Tournament.

“It would be very difficult to pick one particular player who was the deciding factor in our winning because of the amazing team effort exhibited by all the players,” said coach Blake Hull, brother of former NHL great Brett Hull.The Aspen Bantams played in a competitive bracket against AA and AAA teams, including a matchup against last year’s AAA national champions. While the Bantams did not win a game, they did manage one tie.

Rob Cronenberg had four goals and two assists in less than 10 minutes against the Florida Sharpshooters. The Bantams are No. 1 in league play, where they have not lost a game. They travel to Denver on Saturday for a league showdown against the Colorado Junior Eagles.The Pee Wees head to Steamboat Springs this weekend for two league games.
