Nordic series continues with Silverboom

SNOWMASS VILLAGE ” The 36th annual Silverboom cross-country ski race sets off Satur­day from the Snowmass Cross Country Center.

Six-kilometer and 12-kilometer freestyle races ” open to all ages and abilities ” will start at 10 a.m, followed by the 1-kilometer “Kiddieboom” at noon for children 10 and younger. Spectators are encouraged to come out to the race course.

The Kiddieboom event is free, and the freestyle race is $10. Freestyle means skate or classic technique is allowed.



Participants can register in advance at the Snowmass or Aspen cross-country cen­ters. Day-of registration is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Snowmass Cross Country Center. After the race, snacks and hot beverages will be served, and a raffle will be held.

The race is the second in the Aspen Town Nordic Series, an eight-event race and touring series held throughout the Roaring Fork Valley that emphasizes par­ticipation and fun for all ages and ability levels, and racers and non-racers.




Races have a festive atmosphere with food, beverages, and raffle prizes. Points are awarded for age groups and overall placing and are tallied throughout the sea­son. Overall and age-group winners will be awarded prizes at the end-of-the-season party.

The Snowmass Cross Country Center is located on the Snowmass Club golf course in Snowmass Village, on Clubhouse Drive, just off Brush Creek Road.
