Nordic extravaganza returns to Aspen
Aspen, CO Colorado
ASPEN ” There’s something for everyone at Sunday’s Cross Country Ski Extravaganza at the Aspen Cross Country Center.
New skiers are invited to take free lessons and learn Aspen’s nordic trail system, while everyone else is free to come and enjoy free food, demos, lessons, waxing and enter in a raffle.
Held at the Aspen golf course, the 12th annual extravaganza ” scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ” is celebrating 23 years of no-fee, interconnected ski trails between Aspen and Snowmass. The system is courtesy of an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Aspen, Snowmass Village and Pitkin County.
The network comprises more than 60 kilometers of trails, all of which are groomed and free for public use.
Equipment demos and rentals are available from major vendors including Fischer, Alpina, Salomon, Swix and Toko. Rental demos are available from the Aspen Cross Country Center.
A credit card will be required for all rentals and demos.
One-hour lessons are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with instructors from the Aspen and Snowmass cross country centers and Ashcroft Ski Touring.
Each session time will include lessons for beginner and intermediate levels in both skating and classic technique.
Food and drink will be donated by Shlomo’s on the Green restaurant, Paradise Bakery, Louis Swiss Pastry and the Grog Shop. Free ski waxing will be offered all day, and the festivities finish with a raffle at 2 p.m.
