MotherLode finals set today

The finals of the 43rd annual Aspen MotherLode Volleyball Classic will be served today.

The action will begin at 9 a.m. at Koch Lumber Park, including finals in the grass-court divisions.



Finals will run throughout the day running up until the featured finals in the Women’s Open at 4 p.m. and the Men’s Open at 5 p.m.

Times are subject to change depending on weather, etc.



Heading into today’s finals, championship rounds were played in the Men’s Masters Division that went to three sets.

David Smith of Lakewood and partner Justin Phillips of Dunedin, Florida, defeated Kenny Lentin of La Jolla, California, and Dan Deiman of San Diego for the title in the Men’s Masters 37-over at MotherLode 2015, also the Dig magazine national title.

Lentin played in three finals at the national championships in Aspen this year, winning the 50s and 45s.

The total field of teams was more than 500 this year for the annual pro-am tournament in Aspen.

Today’s finals will include Men’s and Women’s A, BB and B divisions on the grass courts. The opens are played in the sand. Spectator admission is free.
