Local junior golfers score in tourneys

Junior golfers from the Aspen area posted top scores in recent tournament play.
Jack Hughes of Aspen Middle School won the title in the Northern Spring CJGA Series tournament at Coyote Creek Golf Course in Fort Lupton.
The normal two-day tournament was shortened to one day because of adverse weather.
Hughes shot a 77 in the tournament round to earn a position in a three-way playoff.
Hughes cared a par a pair of pars to win the playoff. He shot par on the par-3 playoff hole. And he shot par on the par-5, 527-yard playoff hole.
In other golf news, Aspen’s Will Hazen recently finished ninth out of 72 players at the Rocky Mountain Tour event held at Highland Meadows in Windsor.
Competing against top Front Range players, Hazen shot a 2-under 69 on the opening day. He followed that with a 75 on the second day in windy conditions.
Hazen will play golf for Aspen High School again next year.

Mikaela Shiffrin did a lot of soul searching after she didn’t win a medal and didn’t finish three of her five individual races at last year’s Beijing Olympics after entering the games amid enormous expectations.
