Leafs hockey sweeps Thunderbirds
The Aspen Leafs U20 hockey team took care of business over the weekend, sweeping a two-game series against the visiting Colorado Thunderbirds at Lewis Ice Arena.
Friday, the Leafs won 9-2 behind a three-goal performance from Garret McNichol. Hunter Havice and Nolan Willoughby each had two goals as well.
Saturday, the Leafs rolled 7-2, a five-goal first period paving the way. McNichol led the team with two goals, while five others had a goal each.
The Leafs, now 22-13-1, retain second place in the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League. They next play March 3-4 at home against the first-place Pikes Peak Miners. Aspen then closes out the regular season March 10-11 at home against the Thunderbirds.
