It’s not a bird and it’s not a plane, but it might just be the man of steal – Steele Spence that is, Aspen’s new-school fresh prince of freeskiing – during the Kick Aspen Big Air Invitational on Saturday at the base of Aspen Mountain.Spence, the seventh-place finisher in skiing slopestyle at the 2002 X Games at Buttermilk, will be among 32 skiers and snowboarders hucking themselves off the huge table-top jump near the gondola building as part of the180 Spring Jam events.And with $20,000 in prize money on the line, the stakes are high. The event kicks off at 3 p.m., and prime viewing will be available anywhere close by. Following the event, Bouncing Souls takes center stage at the base as part of the Free Outdoor Concert Series & Bud Light Aprs Party, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.The field of snowboarders includes: Rhan Klampert, Doran Laybourn, Pat Howl, Cliff Kolter, Lance Pitman, Seth Bruce, Ryan Lougee, Chris Wycoff, Drew Fuller, George Oakley, Matthew Peterson, Jesse Dempsey, Mitch Stout, Jim Mangan, Steve Ferguson and Chris Crossland.The field of skiers includes: JF Cusson, Shannon Schad, Nick Mercon, Mike Laroche, Derek Finn, Jeremy Weir, Peter Olenik, Blake Davidson, Shay Williams, Travis Redd, Ted Davenport, Brian Anzini, Jason Lance, Zak Fishkin and Spence.
