Junior tennis league sends squad to district playoffs
The Roaring Fork Valley Junior Team Tennis League wrapped up summer play recently.
The league will send the Crown Mountain 12-and-under boys team to the district playoffs in Denver in two weeks.
Gavin Radtke, Frankie Harrington and Sawyer Shook won 121 games during the summer schedule to qualify for the district tennis playoffs.
The Crown Mountain team played against the Glenwood Springs Recreation Center team during the season.
Quinn McKie also contributed to the team’s success during the season. McKie will not be available to play during the district event, which will be held at the historic Gates Tennis Center in Denver. The tournament will be Aug. 8-10.
In other junior tennis action, Grand Junction took first place in the 12-and-under girls division, the 14-and-under boys division and the 18-and-under girls division. They also will advance to the Denver playoffs.
Second places went to Crown Mountain in the 12-and-under girls, the Glenwood Springs 12-and-under boys and the Glenwood Springs 18-and-under girls.
“We had about 20 kids participate this year from our valley, and there was a lot of great tennis played,” said Diana Cordova-Elliott, the junior team tennis coordinator.
“This is the first year for Junior Team Tennis in the Roaring Fork Valley and, hopefully, this will grow by more teams participating next year.”
