Jenny Ellis is moving up again.

Ellis won the state title recently in the annual Elks Soccer Shoot.

The 11-year-old won in the U12 competition held in Salida.

Sponsored by the Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224, Ellis will move on to the regional round of competition Saturday in El Dorado, Kansas.

She’s set for the field in the Mid-America Soccer Shoot in El Dorado.

Ellis started competition in the local event, sponsored by the Aspen Elks and Aspen Parks and Recreation.

The division winners advanced to the mountain district soccer shoot.

Participants were from Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Rifle, Leadville, Breckenridge and Salida.

Ellis advanced to the annual statewide soccer skills competition in Salida, competing against participants from Aspen, Trinidad, Westminster, Salida, Colorado Springs, Telluride, Longmont, Sterling, Florence and Black Hawk.

She posted the overall high points in the competition.

She will return to Kansas where she competed last year against participants from Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas.

“I was very excited to be able to compete in the shootout again,” Ellis said. “I made a few new friends … at the competition.”

Susan Arenella, the Aspen Elks youth committee chair, will accompany Jenny and her dad Chris to Kansas for the Saturday competition.

The Elks organization also sponsors an annual local, state, regional and national free-throw competition for youth.

Aspen Elks No. 224 will host the local Elks Hoop Shoot on Dec. 15, from 3-5 p.m. at the Aspen Elementary School gym.
