Hall wins Aspen quarterpipe contest

ASPEN ” Tanner Hall took home $9,000 Saturday night for taking first place at the inaugural King of Quarters quarterpipe competition under the lights on Aspen Mountain.

Two nights earlier, Hall won gold in the Winter X Games superpipe ” a record-setting seventh gold medal at the games.

At the King of Quarters, skier Stefan Thomas took home $4,000 for second and Colby West took home $2,000 for third. Simon Dumont soared nearly 30 feet, taking home $2,500 for the biggest air.

On Friday, snowboarder Shayne Pospisil won $9,000 and a trip to the Oakley Arctic Challenge in Norway for taking first in the quarterpipe. Scotty Lago won $4,000 for second place and Chad Otterstrom was awarded $2,000 for third.

In all, King of Quarters awarded $32,500 to winning athletes in the snowboard competition on Friday and the ski competition on Saturday. The inaugural quarterpipe contest on Aspen Mountain featured X Games athletes, but was not part of the games.
