GUNNISON, Colo. – The Longhorns trailed by 11 at the half and by as many as 18 in the second half of Wednesday’s 3A Western Slope League district quarterfinals in Gunnison. While Basalt made a late push to make things interesting, the Cowboys held on for a 44-34 victory.

“We played pretty well. I thought we executed how we’re supposed to,” said Longhorns head coach Lauren Redfern. “They just have good players and a lot of dimensions. We had a couple let-downs, and that was it.”

With the loss, Basalt, the No. 2 seed out of the North division, dropped to 6-13. Not all was lost, however; the Longhorns will host Cedaredge at 7 p.m. Thursday in the consolation semifinals. With a win, they would advance to Saturday’s consolation finals at Palisade High School, where they will vie for the Slope’s fifth and final playoff spot.

OLATHE, Colo. – Morgan Stansberry and Emily Brummitt scored 13 points apiece to help Olathe to a 56-32 win over visiting Roaring Fork in Wednesday’s 3A WSL district quarterfinals.

Hattie Gianinetti led the Rams (2-19) with 12 points.

Olathe moves on to Friday’s semifinals against Coal Ridge.

Roaring Fork will travel to face Grand Valley in Thursday’s consolation semifinals at either 6 or 7 p.m.
