Golf: Skiers second at Tiara Rado

The Aspen High School boys golf team took second Tuesday at the Grand Junction Central Invitational, played at Tiara Rado Golf Course. The Skiers shot 231 to finish five strokes shy of tournament champion Montrose. Grand Junction took third with 232, while Basalt High School finished eighth, shooting 247.

Sophomore Jack Hughes led Aspen with 73 to tie for fourth place. Montrose golfer Glen-Michael Mihavetz shot 70 to win the tournament.

Aspen’s Dawson Holmes shot 76 to finish 12th, and Basalt’s Drew Broadhurst shot 78 to finish tied for 13th to round out the local top-20 finishers.

Both Aspen and Basalt also competed Monday at the Grand Junction Invitational at Bookcliff Country Club, with Aspen sending its “Varsity B” team. The only notable finisher was Basalt’s Holden Kleager, who shot 81 to tie for 12th.

Aspen is next scheduled to compete Tuesday at Redlands Mesa, while Basalt is scheduled to compete Wednesday at Lakota Golf Course. Regionals take place Sept. 19 at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course in Delta.
