Girls soccer playoff brackets announced for Aspen, Basalt; play Friday
The Basalt High School girls soccer team will be a No. 19 seed for this week’s Class 3A state tournament, while Aspen is seeded No. 21 in the bracket released Sunday by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
Basalt (11-4 overall) will face No. 14 seed Salida (10-5) on Friday in a game hosted by No. 3 seed Manitou Springs, just outside Colorado Springs. Manitou Springs (14-1) has a first-round bye and will play the BHS-Salida winner on Saturday.
Aspen (10-5) will play No. 12 Middle Park (10-5) on Friday in a game hosted by Peak to Peak in Lafayette. Aspen and Middle Park played as recently as Friday in the regular-season finale, a 3-1 win for the Panthers that snapped the Skiers’ seven-game win streak.
Peak to Peak (12-2-1), the No. 5 seed, also has a first-round bye and will host the Aspen-Middle Park winner on Saturday in the second round.
Jefferson Academy (13-1-1) earned the top overall seed in 3A in the 24-team field.
Also making the tournament out of the Western Slope were Coal Ridge as a No. 17 seed and Vail Mountain, the league champion, as a No. 15 seed.
