Girls basketball: Cedaredge’s pesky press bugs Skiers

The Cedaredge girls put on the press.
And they turned up the offense with the help of the full-court press.
The Cedaredge girls basketball team surged to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter and sailed to a 65-18 victory for the Aspen girls on Tuesday night in Western Slope League action.
After falling behind by 31 at halftime, the Aspen girls played one of their most effective quarters of the season in the third period.
With baskets from Mary Landis, Zara Iacona and Olivia Crawford, Aspen totaled seven points in the quarter, to only 11 for the high-scoring Bruins (3-1)
Landis led all Aspen scorers with six points.
Iacano and Crawford had four points each for the Aspen girls (0-5).
Cedaredge’s balanced scoring include three players in double figures and two more with nine points each. Alyssa Isaman led the way with 12 points. Mackenzie Kehmeier and Kaitlyn Kissner added 10 each.
Bree Gutierrez and Nellie Freeman scored nine each.
Landis finally put the Skies on the board after Cedaredge had scored nine consecutive points to start the game.
The Aspen girls will break for the holidays before returning to Western Slope League play with a home game against Coal Ridge on Jan. 10. The Skiers will host Moffat County (Craig) on Jan. 11.
