Former Basalt golfer leads Orediggers to win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. Jim Knous made quite a first impression in his first college golf tournament.The former Basalt High School golfer shot a final round score of 67 Tuesday at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood to win the three-round Colorado School of Mines/Regis University Fall Invitational by eight strokes.Knous and School of Mines teammate Patrick Hill went 1-2 to lead the Orediggers to the team trophy with a three-round team stroke total of 867 (15-over par). Regis (874) took second, followed by CSU-Pueblo (876), Fort Hays State University (878) and Colorado Christian (887).Knous opened with matching rounds of 70 on Monday, then followed with a 67 on Tuesday to finish 6 under. Hill was just two strokes behind Knous after two rounds but fired a 73 on Tuesday.Four other golfers tied for third. Knous finished seventh at last years 4A state golf championships as a senior at Basalt. Next up for the Orediggers is an invitational hosted by Regis on Monday and Tuesday in Westminster.
