Elks junior tennis tournament draws huge field
The Aspen Times
The biggest field of junior tennis players in years turned out for this week’s Elks Lodge No. 224 Junior Tennis Tournament at the Aspen Golf and Tennis Club.
Gary Quandt, director of tennis, said the tournament had 90 players for the weekend event.
“Juniors from around Colorado and even players from Maine to Los Angeles played in the tournament,” Quandt said.
Tournament co-diretor Gayle Godwin said the tournament was the biggest in many years. She thanked the Elks Lodge for their sponsorship — in its 12th year in 2015.
“Their involvement with the tournament has allowed us to grow the tournament to be one of the premier tennis events in the valley,” Godwin said.
The tournament was an age-division tournament for ages 10-18 with singles and doubles.
In the featured 18 singles divisions, Carolena Camps of Grand Junction defeated Jessica Innis of Montrose in the championship match 6-0, 6-1.
