ASPEN ” Simon Dumont won the title in Saturday night’s Winter X Games skiing big air competition, receiving 76 percent of the text message vote by the fans.
Dumont’s winning jump at Buttermilk in Aspen began with a flip at the start and ended with two more, plus a Superman impression ” in which he stretched his body outward in flight ” thrown in for good measure.
Last year’s winner, Jon Olsson came in second with a final jump that was his own creation ” an Olsson flip, 1080. And although the trick was deemed by most as being more difficult, the fans awarded Dumont the gold.
There are no other medals besides gold for the event, which featured four skiers in head-to-head competition, taking two jumps in each round off a 65-foot step-up gap.
