Coal Ridge girls topple Basalt in OT

PEACH VALLEY, Colorado – After scoring just four points in the third quarter, Coal Ridge’s girls found another offensive gear. Outscoring Basalt 17-10 in the fourth quarter and 11-8 in overtime, the Titans dealt the Longhorns a 51-48 overtime defeat on Saturday.

Brianna Rhodes led a balanced score sheet with 12 points as Coal Ridge handed Basalt its first 3A WSL loss. Chasity Gonzales chipped in with 10 points, Carly Cloninger seven and Cheyln McCain six.

The Titans, now 3-4 overall and 2-3 in league, trailed 22-19 at halftime and 30-23 after three.

Nicole Booth led Basalt (4-3, 4-1) with 19 points. Jamie Matherly contributed 10.

PEACH VALLEY, Colorado – After falling behind 17-6 at the outset, Coal Ridge’s boys basketball team rallied to score 52 of the game’s next 68 points to beat Basalt, 58-33, on Saturday.

“It was a good defensive effort,” Titans coach Paul Harvey said. “We made them take some tough shots and we actually rebounded for a change.”

Andy Smedra led Coal Ridge, 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the 3A WSL, with 20 points. Tyler Guettler chipped in with 10 and Brandon Schlegel had eight.

David Gruenefeldt led Basalt with 11 points. Blake Scherer added 10.
